Believe it or not, this spontaneous song was inspired by “Beth” from Kiss, as a late night studio experiment that worked. My band (Essie Ecks) had been in the Noise Chamber recording all day/night. Everyone went home to catch some shut eye except for me and Jimmy Johnson, who was co-producing/engineering. We were a little burnt so I asked if he could just record me singing and playing acoustic. He freaked on the ooo’s and aaa’s at the end so we kinda went nuts and recorded a few overdubs. Jim McDonald added Cello in the early AM and we rough mixed it for the boys when they cam back to the studio the next day.

Surprise! Must have been good, they put it on the album.

This song was inspired by a style and a spell of listeneing to Sondre Loche, rather than any particular person. But, the lyrics were born from watching groups of people and how they interact. I’ve noticed that many times, people are very reserved and never give a possible relationship a chance…hence the title. I’m very proud of how this song turned out and it has been rewarded with surprising applause and praise playing it live. It has a fun, energetic, positive flow. Hopefully some day I’ll record this again (in a studio/not the garage in the spur of the moment) with drums and other instrumentation.
